Library redevelopment 2012 – Levels 3 and 4 now open to the public

September 10, 2012

During this summer the second phase of refurbishment work was carried out on levels 3 and 4 of the Main Library providing users with, amongst other benefits, more study spaces, improved heating and ventilation and more pcs. This has now brought the upper levels up to the same high standard as level 2 and thus concludes the two phase redevelopment project.

Although the major refurbishment work has been completed, and the upper levels are now open to the public, there are some cosmetic upgrades still on-going. It is likely that this work will continue over the next few days. As a result there may be slight noise disruption to users. The Library apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

Upgrade to Main Library toilets on level 2 – w/c 27th August 2012

Level 2 toilets

Work will shortly take place in the male and female toilets on level 2 to allow for the installation of new vanity units and deeper basins. It is expected that this essential upgrade will minimise the spillage, and subsequent pooling, of water on the floor.

The work is due to be carried out week commencing 27th August, 2012 and will require the toilets on level 2 to be temporarily decommissioned.  This will affect the male and female toilets only. The disabled toilet will remain operational.

In order to minimise the impact on public service the male and female toilets will be closed off on alternate dates as detailed below. On these days the disabled toilet on level 2 will be repurposed to accommodate the needs of male or female library users, as well as disabled users.  Alternately library users can use the facilities on the ground floor of the adjacent Arts building.

Dates of expected temporary closure:

  • Male toilets        – Tuesday 28th August, 2012
  • Female toilets   – Thursday 30th August, 2012

It is expected that the upgrade work, for each set of toilets, will be completed in one day.
